How to convert files to PDF in Batch with Google Docs

If you have a huge bundle of Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets and PowerPoint Presentations on your hard drive that you would like to convert into PDF at once without investing in commercial software like Adobe Acrobat, try Google Docs.

While it has always been possible to convert Office documents into PDF using Google Docs, the new export feature makes it even easier for you to batch convert Microsoft Office and Open Office file formats into PDF (or HTML) in three easy steps.

Batch Conversion to PDF with Google Docs

Step #1 - Create a new "input" folder in Google Docs where you'll upload all your documents and presentations that are to converted into PDF.

             pdf input queue

Step #2 - Now select the Upload Document option in Google Docs, set the destination folder to the one that you created in Step #1 and upload*# all your documents.
Google Docs officially supports the following file formats though you may also upload images:
  • Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt, .pps).
  • Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), OpenDocument (.odt) and StarOffice (.sxw).
  • Microsoft Excel (csv, .xls, .xlsx) files and OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods).
             pdf upload documents

*# You may also use the email option to upload documents onto Google Docs but that would put everything on the main folder and managing documents can therefore become a issue especially when you have too many files.

Step #3 -  Once all files are uploaded onto Google Docs, open the dashboard again and select the "input" folder from the right sidebar. Select all the files in this folder and choose "Export" under "More Options".

Here's select "PDF" (or HTML) as the output format and all your Word Documents, presentations, spreadsheets, etc. will be instantly converted into PDF.

             batch pdf convert

And if you are converting a large batch of documents into PDF, you don't have to wait in the browser for the conversion to finish as Google Docs will automatically send you an email once the processing is over. The email will have a link from where you can directly download all the PDF files in one large ZIP.

Add adsense at top of only post pages in blogger

Adding Adsense ads to the top of only posts pages in Blogger (as seen above) and not on any other page (home page , archives etc.) is bit difficult keeping in view the limitations of the Blogger (blogspot) blog. According to Adsense policies one can only have the three ad units and three link units simultaneously at any webpage. If you add the Adsense code to top of each post then at home page if you are having, lets say, five posts then Adsense cannot be shown at top of each post.

 Also it’s better to have clean home page with recent posts and their summaries and ads only show on top of post at post page. A little trick can solve this issue. Thanks to Page type in Blogger.The posts have the pageType= item. Just follow the steps given below to add the Adsense to top of each post of Blogger and at the same time the ads will not be shown on home page etc.

1. get the Google Adsense ad codes from your Adsense accounts and parsed them so that it can be used in Blogger template. You can use this tool.

2. Go to Blogger account and then go to Design > Edit HTML.( Backup your template as precautionary measure)

3. Check the Expand Widget Templates box and search the following line of code in your template by pressing CTRL + F

<div class='post-body entry-content'>

4. Rite After this add the following lines of code. Replace the line (YOUR ADSENSE AD CODE) with parsed Adsense code in step 1.

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
<div style='float: top;'>
YOUR PARSED ADSENSE AD CODE
</div>
</b:if>

5. Save the template and you are done.

You can define the float property to define the Ads placement. With top property Adsense ads will be shown at top of each post just below the title of post. If you want to merge the Adsense ads at the top left of right of the post just write left or right instead of top.
Most people recommend to have the 300×250 or 336×280 ad unit at the top of the post as its gives better results specially for the visitors who landed one your post via search engines.

Difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8

Microsoft Windows has already demonstrated Windows 8 preview of its new features in Microsoft conference Build. Though, it is the fact that the shown demonstrations are not yet completed. There are some key differences between Windows 7 and Windows 8 which are given here below-

If we talk about Windows 7 operating system, then no doubt it is good operating system to experience. It is among second best OS liked by the world after the Windows XP. Windows 7 includes many fabulous features which are creating history but no doubt, it also has some troublesome which is making people think of switching to Windows 8 operating system. Windows 8 on the other hand, has been tried to be the operating system for tablets to televisions. Microsoft Windows has already ruled the desktops and laptops and its next target is tablets, ultra books and televisions.

The differences which Microsoft Windows brings to Windows 8 in comparison to Windows 7 are as follows-

Windows Touch friendly features

The main difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8 comes with its metro style interface that provides live title of rectangle shape which has replaced the icon pattern in Windows 8. In Windows 7 operating system, software shortcuts are in the form of icons. As far as the touch interface is concerned then Windows 7 supports touch interface but not that much, what was expected. So, Windows 8 comes with true touch interface for Metro style apps. It is fast way of accessing data by using an improved on-screen keyboard and handwriting recognition.

Windows ARM processor support

Windows 7 is fully compatible and supportive for x86 processors which is build for traditional home computers but the hint of Windows 8 operating system has changed this current scenario such that Windows 8 offers support for devices running on ARM processor. ARM processor designs are used for growing number of devices. Microsoft Windows is excited to implement ARM processor in its upcoming devices.

Windows based cloud computing

Earlier, it was not possible to store large amount of data on servers but cloud computing have made it possible. Windows 7 is not representing cloud based services but Windows 8 does. We know that Microsoft Windows will come with central cloud integration in Windows 8 operating system. It is representing synchronized data for a Skydrive which interface settings between PC's browsing and other photos which is being shared among multiple platforms.

Windows based apps store

Windows 8 operating system introduces new app store in which different apps is implemented for various devices and settings on right of the screen. The settings section includes contextual apps like volume, brightness, restart and power options. You can share content, links, app reviews, contacts, metro apps, facebook and twitter applications with your friends or colleagues. Windows 8 store offers both desktop apps and ecosystem for developers. On the other hand, Windows 7 OS is missing all these features.

Windows Start button replaced

On one side, Windows 8 is inheriting Windows 7 features like using same tile interface as used in Windows Phone 7 but on the other hand Windows 8 hints to Windows start button replacement. It is creating flexibility such that only best possible outputs are selected from Windows 7 and others are considered on basis of future predication.

Multiple monitors support in Windows

Microsoft announced that customers can use more than one monitor to connect with Windows 8 operating system. Windows 8 PC management allows customers to use multiple monitors at same time. It means Windows 8 offers flexibility by allowing start screen at one monitor and desktop in another. Customer can also choose taskbar on both screens with different icons on each monitor. Moreover, you can play with background images as well by changing it separate on each monitor. Such support is not available with Windows 7 operating system.

Timeline for Facebook Pages : A Complete Overview

Facebook today unveils Timeline for pages — a combination of design elements and moderation features that give organizations the controls they need to maintain an effective presence on the social network.

The redesign, the largest for pages since February 2011, creates a more unified look and feel for the site after profiles and groups were updated earlier this year. Page owners will have a 30-day window to redesign their pages and publish when they are ready. On March 31, all pages will automatically switch to the new format.

The layout featuring a cover photo and larger stories in an easy to navigate chronology is similar to Timeline for personal profiles. What differs is the ability to pin a post to the top of a page and a friend activity box that makes pages more relevant to each user. Page tabs still function, but there is no longer an option to set a third-party tab as default. A new admin panel, activity log and direct message feature will help page owners manage their communities.

We had a chance to preview the new pages and will review key features below.

Cover Photo

In lieu of a unique landing tab, pages have a 851×351 pixel photo to convey a brand message. However, Facebook wants to keep cover photos from looking like banner ads so images cannot include price or purchase information, contact info, calls to action or references to Facebook features such as Like or Share. Page owners might be frustrated by this but we can see why Facebook would do it. Most users won’t understand what aspects of a page are done by third-parties versus done by Facebook. If pages use cover photos like advertisements, many users could confuse them for actual ads and get frustrated with the social network.

Timeline

Page owners can now add milestones and choose to feature posts larger than others, similar to what users can do with life events on Timeline (see image below). Pages can also hide individual posts without deleting them. This allows pages to display only its most engaging posts without losing important data.
Another new feature is one page owners have long asked for: the option to pin an important post to the top of the page. Pinned posts can stay for up to seven days. Unlike on Twitter, pinned posts are available to all page, not just premium advertisers.

Admin Panel

A new management tool appears at the top of pages a person has admin rights to. It gives a snapshot of insights, people who recently Liked the page, fan activity notifications and a message inbox. Similar to a feature we saw tested in December 2011, pages can now accept direct messages from users. This allows customer service issues and other sensitive matters to be discussed privately instead of on the wall. Pages cannot initiate direct messages with fans.
The admin panel also includes Help Center items like “Request a name change for your page,” prompts to create ads and other tips for page owners.

Activity Log

Like on personal profiles, the activity log is useful for finding and editing old posts. Admins can sort items by year or type of story. The activity log is only visible to users who have admin rights to the page. From screenshots we’ve seen, insights for each post are not shown in the activity log, but this would be a helpful addition.

Applications

Page tab apps continue to function, but instead of listing apps down the left side of the page, apps are available on the right beneath the cover photo. Fewer tabs can be highlighted above a “See more” option, but all apps benefit from larger thumbnails. App images are 111×74 pixels instead of 16×16 pixel favicons like they were previously. Apps themselves can now be up to 810 pixels wide. They render on a new page underneath a header with a link back to the page, a drop-down menu with other tabs and a Like button if users don’t already.
Facebook will not allow default landing tabs like before. The company recommends pages pin a post that links to a particular tab. According to cover photo guidelines, pages cannot add images that use arrows or text to direct people to visit tabs or take particular actions. The social network seems to be waning pages off of tab applications. The vision for the platform is for Facebook to be integrated into third-party websites and mobile apps, not to have applications running within page frames. But since many companies already invested in developing applications for their pages, the social network could not simply get rid of them at this stage.

Mangae Your Google Plus Page as a Team

Google+ Pages were a long-awaited feature after launch, but they only allowed individual administrators when they arrived. Since brand pages are how organizations manage their presence on Google+, many page owners need to give multiple team members the ability to edit and moderate. A large team can control the page, and you can also transfer the ownership of your Page. So if one person created your page but someone else needs to be in charge of it, the creator can transfer that power. The Google+ interface is a little busy, so here's a step-by-step guide for how to change managers of a Google+ page

Managers have all the same powers as owners except for two key things: they can't delete the page, and they can't transfer ownership. Otherwise, both owners and managers can add and remove new managers, view the roster of managers (including their email addresses), adjust the page's settings (like notifications), and, most importantly, do page actions like post content and edit circles.

Here's how to add managers or transfer ownership:
1. On your Google+ page, click the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen and select "Google+ Settings"
googleplusmanage1.jpg

Note: Google's new top nav bar is taking a rather long time to roll out. For now, some users will see a "Settings" link on a gray bar instead of the gear on a black bar. Don't worry, they're in the same place and they do the same thing.

"if Setting Gear is not visible then go to your page's home and click on the setting which is on right side"

2. Select "Managers" from the menu on the left side

3. Add managers using their email address
Google points out that email addresses add another layer of security when adding managers, but it also gives people the option of accepting the invitation with a different email address/Google account than the one you selected.
googleplusmanage2.jpg

4. To transfer ownership, click the link in the top right corner
googleplusmanage3.jpg

That's all there is to it. Now you can add anyone on your team who needs the ability to manage your Google+ page.

Add Google+ Your Business to your circles to receive regular tips from Google.
Oh, and don't forget to encircle Tech Impulsion on Google+.

Cool CSS4 Feature

CSS 4? Really? CSS 3 isn't fully released yet! What on earth is going on here?

It all started when I was fooling around with GIMP, the extremely powerful free graphics editor. I took a public domain image, re-sized it, gave it a transparent background and then added a perspective shadow.
It is beautiful.

I wanted to see the image in "action" so I put it on a web page. But because of the way HTML elements are rendered, there was nothing behind my gorgeous image to demonstrate the transparency. I could have used a background color but instead I gave the image an absolute position and positioned it over a button:
It looks 3-dimensional but you can't click on the button with the mouse. The transparent part of the image is like having a sheet of glass over the button. You can tab to it and use the space bar but it's really not useable as it is.

I recalled reading about the CSS pointer-events property. I assigned it to the image and voila! It worked…at least on FireFox. IE hasn't implemented this feature yet.

Here is a jsFiddle that shows it in action. If your browser supports pointer-events, you will be able to click the button:
