How to Make Windows startup Faster

Does your Windows computer take really long to start-up?Make Your windows startup faster. As yo all know this problem occurs regularly with windows XP as well as with Windows Vista.
Well, you are not alone with this problem but fortunately, with some minor tweaks, you can get your sluggish Windows to start much faster without re-installing Windows or adding any new hardware.
The logic is fairly simple. Your computer loads quite a few software programs and services during start-up (look at all the icons in your Windows System tray). If you can trim this list, your computer’s boot time will decrease.
I have been testing a free utility called Soluto and it helped reduce the start-up time of my Windows computer from 3.15 minutes to around 1.25 minutes. All this with a few easy clicks and without confusing the user with any technical jargon.
          soluto boot problems
After you install Soluto, it sorts your start-up programs list into three categories:
  • No-brainer – remove these programs from start-up with giving a second thought.
  • Potentially removable – another list of start-up programs that may also be removed provided you know what these programs do.
  • Required – Certain programs and services are required to run Windows properly and therefore should not be removed.
Depending upon the software app, you may then either choose “Pause” to completely remove that app from the start-up queue or choose “Delay” when you want the app to run automatically but not immediately at start-up. Soluto will launch the “delayed” app once the boot up is over and your system is idle.
You can also hover the mouse over any program name and Soluto will display the number of seconds that the app adds to the start-up time. And don't bother about making mistakes because Soluto has a useful "Undo all" feature that will restore the start-up list to the original state with a click.
      system boot time
Once you are done classifying your start-up programs list, reboot the computer and you should notice a difference between the start-up time.
Where to download Soluto?
The official site for Soluto is soluto.com but in order to download the program, you should head over to mysoluto.com.
Alternatives to Soluto
If you are tech-savvy, you can also use a utility like Sysinternals Autoruns to manually prevent all the non-essential Windows processes and programs from running at start-up.
Just uncheck all the Autorun entries and Services that you don't wish to load at startup and reboot your system. You’ll however need a separate program to get the “delay” feature which is so handy in Solute.

Enable Your Facebook Timeline Now !!

You’ve been hearing about all the wonderful new Facebook features, and like us, you’re probably super-eager to get started with them.
If you’re willing to go through a series of eight steps, you can get into the brand-new Facebook Timeline right now.
Simply follow the instructions in our gallery below, and suddenly you’ll be basking in a new world of Facebook goodness, just like the developers are. Follow the instructions carefully, and good luck.
First, you’ll need to go to the Facebook developer page, which is a part of your Facebook account. Make sure you’re logged into your Facebook account, and then simply follow this link to get started.
Step 1. When You get here click allow
 2. Click "create new app"

3. Name it whatever you want, and give it whatever namespace you'd like -- it doesn't matter. Click the checkbox "I agree to the platform privacy policy." And then click Continue, pass the security check by filling in the Captcha, and you'll be ready for the next step.

4. After you've verified yourself as a human, you'll reach this screen, where you'll need to click "Open Graph" on the left side

5.  You'll see the next screen, entitled "Get Started with Open Graph" -- fill in anything you want (it doesn't matter) in those fields under the heading "start by defining one action than one object for your app." Click Get Started.

6.  On this screen, do nothing except scroll to the bottom and click "Save Changes and Next." Do the same thing on the next screen.

 7. You'll be taken to this screen. Wait a few minutes, and then go to your Facebook homepage. That's where you'll be invited to enable Timeline. Be patient at this point -- sometimes it requires you to wait before the changes take effect.

8. When you go back to your Facebook homepage, you'll see this. Success! Click Get It Now, and you're in!

9.Here's where you fiddle with your timeline, set it up the way you like it, and when you click Publish Now, your Timeline goes live. Or, you can wait until Thursday, September 29, 2011, and it'll go live on its own. If you want to get into your timeline from another computer, the address for this developer's version is located at this URL: http://www.facebook.com/[yourusername]?sk=timeline and of course [yourusername] is your own Facebook user name.

Facebook Introducing TimeLine, a new kind of profile

Facebook has unveiled Timeline, a major re-imagining of user profiles that allows users to build what’s essentially a visual scrapbook of everything they’ve done on the site.

CEO Mark Zuckeberg showed off the new features in his keynote at the company’s f8 conference. It algorithmically organizes everything you’ve done on Facebook — from post photos to change relationship status to check in — and also allows users to fill out a “Way Back” section to add details that are omitted or pre-date the social network.

Since the beginning of Facebook, your profile has been the place where you tell your story. People use it to share everything from the small stuff, like their thoughts on an article, to the most important events of their lives, like the photos of their wedding or the birth of their child.

                                                    <Checkout Facebook Timeline>

The evolution of your profile

Back in the early days of Facebook, your profile was pretty basic – just your name, a photo, where you went to school…stuff you'd cover in the first five minutes you met someone.

Over time, your profile evolved to better reflect how you actually communicate with your friends. Now you can can share photos of what you did last weekend, and updates about how you feel today.

But since the focus is on the most recent things you posted, more important stuff slips off the page. The photos of your graduation get replaced by updates about what you had for breakfast.

Say you're catching up with an old friend – would you rather find out that they had eggs this morning, or hear about their new dream job?

The way your profile works today, 99% of the stories you share vanish. The only way to find the posts that matter is to click "Older Posts" at the bottom of the page. Again. And again.

Imagine if there was an easy way to rediscover the things you shared, and collect all your best moments in a single place.

With timeline, now you have a home for all the great stories you've already shared. They don't just vanish as you add new stuff.
Timeline is wider than your old profile, and it's a lot more visual.  The first thing you'll notice is the giant photo right at the top. This is your cover, and it's completely up to you which of your photos you put here.

As you scroll down past your cover, you'll see your posts, photos and life events as they happened in time. You choose what's featured on your timeline. You can star your favorites to double their size or hide things altogether.

Filling in the blanks

If important parts of your story aren't included on your timeline, you can go back to when they happened and add them.

Or go to your private activity log. This is where you'll find everything you shared since you joined Facebook. Click on any post to feature it on your timeline so your friends can see it, too.

When you get your timeline, you can choose to publish it immediately or take a few days to review what's there and add anything that's missing.

Now, you and your friends will finally be able to tell all the different parts of your story – from the small things you do each day to your biggest moments. What will you create? We can't wait to find out.

TRAI will cap SMS to 100 per day from 27 sep

Make sure that you draw up the list of who you want to wish this Dussehra very carefully since the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has decided to cap the number of text messages that you can send every day at 100.

The new set of rules has ostensibly been framed to check telemarketers from bombarding you with unwanted messages from sauna belts to real estate deals but it will end up putting curbs on how many SMSes you send from your phone.

With the cap coming into effect from September 27, several mobile users would have to resort to making phone calls instead of sending out text messages, seen to be less intrusive. Besides, many who pay up to Rs 100 a month to get a daily dose of free text messages would now see a sharp rise in their phone bills as these schemes would no longer be valid.

Although there are several mobile phone users who send more than 100 messages a day, the regulator and government officials are unwilling to buy this and argue that this is the best way to deal with pesky calls-a menace that Trai as well as the government have been unable to tackle for years.

What's more, telecom operators say that it may be tough to monitor if the 3,000 SMS a month cap for postpaid subscribers is adhered to or not. "In case of prepaid users, you can monitor it on a day-today basis but for postpaid customers , you will look at the number at the end of the month," said Rajan S Mathews , director general of COAI. Trai chairman J S Sarma could not be reached for comment .

Earlier this month, the telecom regulator mandated that commercial communications be sent between 9 am and 9 pm to all subscriberswhether registered for the National Do Not Call Registry or not. For those who opt to be under the 'fully blocked' category, a telemarketer cannot disturb you.

Alternatively, you can opt for the facility which allows you to access information on any of the seven segments-banking and financial products, real estate, education, health, consumer goods, automobiles, communication and entertainment, tourism and leisure.

An exception will be made in case of transaction-related messages such as those from banks, insurance companies, railways, airlines or telecom service providers for providing information related to customers or passengers.

Companies have been mandated to register with telecom service providers who would assign them numbers in the 140 series. "What if the 101st message is in an emergency?" asks COAI's Mathews.

Google Plus is now open for everyone

Google Plus
After being invite-only for nearly three months, Google+ is opening up to everyone.

Writing on its official company blog about the 99 improvements that have been made to the product since launching, Google’s Vic Gundotra wrote, “We’re ready to move from field trial to beta, and introduce our 100th feature: open signups.”

Today’s update also comes with big improvements to Google+ Hangouts, including the ability to use them on Android devices (version 2.3 and higher). It also includes search, which is a hybrid of content shared on Google+ and results from around the web. “Just type what you’re looking for into the Google+ search box, and we’ll return relevant people and posts, as well as popular content from around the web,” Gundotra wrote.

SEE ALSO: Google+ Hangouts API for Developers

Google+ invites were in high demand when the service first launched in July, and the service attracted 20 million visitors in its first month. Since then, however, the service seems to have lost some of its luster, with a controversy around brand pages fanning the flames.

Facebook has also launched a number of features that challenge what were initially selling points of Google’s offering. The leading social network revamped Friend Lists and made changes to the News Feed, both of which bring Google+ Circles-like functionality to the site.

Now that Google+ is open to everyone, we’ll see if the service can regain the momentum it had earlier this summer.

Facebook's New Updates to News Feed,so that you never miss friends updates

Facebook is launching a series of changes to the News Feed, including the addition of a real-time “ticker.”

The first change is designed to make it possible to see all the big events in your friends’ lives since the last time you checked your feed, regardless of whether it’s been three minutes or three weeks. “News Feed will act more like your own personal newspaper,” Facebook says in a blog post.
To do this, it has removed the “Top Stories and “Most Recent” links on the top of the News Feed and replaced it with a smarter feed that adjusts content based on the last time you checked it. If you haven’t been on Facebook for three days, it will pull out the top stories from your network. This means you won’t miss important relationship status changes, photos or big life events.
If you’re a more frequent visitor of Facebook, your News Feed will be filled with more recent content in chronological order. The social network is also giving you the ability to tweak the top stories in your News Feeds by marking or unmarking updates as a “Top Story.”
The second change affects how photos are displayed in the News Feed. Simply put, photos will be larger and more prominent. This was one of the top user feature requests. The goal was to bring photos front and center and make them even more beautiful.
“It’s just an incredibly popular form of content,” Schacht says.
The final update Facebook is rolling out is the addition of a news ticker above the chat column on the right-hand side. The ticker, which the social network has been testing with a small group of users for the past few weeks, is a real-time feed of all the activity happening in your social graph. Unlike the News Feed, which focuses on the past, ticker focuses on present activity. Essentially, it replaces the function of the “Most Recent” section of the News Feed.
Clicking on an item in the ticker will bring up that content in a hover window on the page, where you can comment or interact with the content in real time. Schacht says that this results in instant conversations. “By surfacing what’s happening right now anywhere on the site, we are creating shared experiences with your friends,” he says.
How has News Feed Changed?

All of your news is now in one place. Recent stories and and top stories are now together on a single tab, and to make sure you don’t miss the anything important, we're highlighting top stories that we think you’ll find interesting with blue corners.

When you log in after being gone for a while, the stories we think you’ll find interesting, or top stories, posted while you were away will rise to the top of your News Feed for you to see first.

Google Launches Hangout API for Developers

Google+ Hangouts
In addition to the slew of new Hangout-related features announced today on the official Google blog, the Google+ team also announced the launch of the Google+ Hangouts API for developers. This API (application programming interface) will be available as a “Developer Preview” starting today – meaning it’s not a fully-cooked product, but one that’s available for testing purposes only.

The new Hangouts API will allow developers to build their own experiences inside Hangouts and build real-time applications that use Hangouts, similar to Google’s own built-in YouTube player. The YouTube player lets Google+ users in a Hangout watch videos together at the same time.

Google also announced screen-sharing, Google Docs editing and sketching as new built-in features for Google+ Hangouts today, thereby forcing developers to think beyond the obvious integrations to more creative uses of the Hangouts API when building their apps.

To get started with the API, developers will build a Web application, register it with Google and specify who on their team can load it into a Hangout. The app behaves like a normal Web app, says Google, but it can use the new APIs like synchronization. Developers can create a “shared state” among all instances of their app so that all of their users are instantly notified of changes made by anyone else. Also included are the first few multimedia APIs that enable apps to do things like mute the audio and video feeds of Hangout participants.

The increased focus on Google+ Hangouts comes at a time when interest in Google’s new social network is dwindling and Facebook has implemented several similar features to those found on Google+. It’s not surprising to find Google promoting Hangouts, then, given they’re one of the service’s main differentiating factors from Facebook. Although Facebook offers video chat with friends through its Skype integration, that support is limited to one-on-one conversation, not group chats.

With Hangouts, developers could potentially build free alternatives to paid apps for online meetings, podcasting, tutoring and education, gaming and more. It should be interesting to see what developers come up with. In the meantime, documentationsign up forms and group-based feedback are available now, too.

About Google+ Hangouts API for Developers

The Google+ Hangouts API allows you to develop collaborative apps that run inside of a Google+ Hangout. Hangout apps behave much like normal web apps, but with the addition of the rich, real-time functionality provided by the Hangouts APIs. Apps have the ability to control aspects of the user interface, synchronize data between hangout participants, and respond to various events in the hangout.

We are launching the Hangouts API initially as a Developer Preview. We'll be gathering feedback during this early phase and using it to rapidly improve the API, so be aware that functionality is likely to change. You'll find that we've added additional tools directly in the hangout itself to help you build your apps more quickly.
Getting started is easy. First, build your app or just start with one of our pre-built examples like Talking Heads, which changes your avatar into a talking Android of your choice. Next, register it in the APIs Console, and tell us who on your team should be able to load your app. Then, start a hangout with your app!

Think Web Colors in Hexa-decimal Numbers with RGB

RGB Combination
If you've ever customized the design of your blog, social network profile or a widget, you've probably encountered HTML Hexadecimal color codes.

Here is a simple guide to help you recognize web colors more quickly from their RGB codes.
In a typical web representation #RRGGBB, the first 2 digits denote red, the second 2 digital are for green and while the last 2 digit represent the blue shade.

Each number denotes the strength of that particular color - FF0000 is only red (no green, no blue), 00FF00 only green (no red, no blue). If all colors are present in equal strength FFFFFF, you get white, if no color is present 000000, black.

If you want to "darken" a color, you need to move the color towards black 000000. That means 880000 is darker than BB0000 that is darker than FF0000.

Similarly, if you want to "lighten" a color, move towards white FFFFFF. So, FF8888 is lighter than FF4444 that is lighter than FF0000.

Color combinations are dictated by the "strongest" color. So BB8844 is a reddish shade, 33CC00 would be a little green, and 777777 gray (since it has no strongest color).
If you're uncomfortable with *Hexadecimal arithmetic, you could use the standard Windows calculator in scientific mode to perform such calculations.

*Hexadecimal numbers use 16 unique symbols (0-F) as opposed to the Decimal number system's 10 (0-9), and to make up for the extra 6 characters, the English alphabets A-F are used.

RGB Color Model

The RGB color model is an additive color model in which red, green, and blue light is added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors. The name of the model comes from the initials of the three additive primary colors, red, green, and blue.
The main purpose of the RGB color model is for the sensing, representation, and display of images in electronic systems, such as televisions and computers, though it has also been used in conventional photography. Before the electronic age, the RGB color model already had a solid theory behind it, based in human perception of colors.
RGB is a device-dependent color model: different devices detect or reproduce a given RGB value differently, since the color elements (such as phosphors or dyes) and their response to the individual R, G, and B levels vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, or even in the same device over time. Thus an RGB value does not define the same color across devices without some kind of color management.

Facebook Now Recommends to Subscribe People like Twitter

The new subscribe feature of Facebook seems to have lot in common with Twitter but with one key difference - if you follow someone on Twitter, you get to see all their shares whereas if you subscribe to someone on Facebook, you only see stuff that they have specifically made 'public.'

Facebook Subscribe Recommendation
Today, Facebook has added a new feature where they recommend you other public Facebook profiles to subscribe to and these recommendations are probably based on your existing subscriptions (see screenshot). Twitter too has a similar recommendation engine which offers suggestions based on who you are currently following.
Twitter Who-To-Follow

Twitter has a valid reason to worry here. They just touched 100 million users while Facebook has a 750+ million user base and people spend more time on Facebook than any other site on the web. Twitter only recently added support for multimedia while Facebook does a far better job at rendering shared content with rich snippets and inline previews.

I created my Twitter account some five years and it has taken me all this time to reach a few thousand followers. I enabled subscriptions for my Facebook profile a few days ago and the number of subscribers has already crossed the first thousand mark. That's just because of the sheer reach of Facebook.
